Huawei EulerOS: Security Advisory for perl-DBD-MySQL (EulerOS-SA-2021-1447)

Published: 2021-03-05 07:06:37
CVE Author: NIST National Vulnerability Database

CVSS Base Vector:
AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P

Summary:
The remote host is missing an update for the Huawei EulerOS 'perl-DBD-MySQL' Linux Distribution Package(s) announced via the EulerOS-SA-2021-1447 advisory.

Detection Method:
Checks if a vulnerable Linux Distribution Package version is present on the target host.

Technical Details:
Buffer overflow in the DBD::mysql module before 4.037 for Perl allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via vectors related to an error message.(CVE-2016-1246) The DBD::mysql module before 4.039 for Perl, when using server-side prepared statement support, allows attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via vectors involving an unaligned number of placeholders in WHERE condition and output fields in SELECT expression.(CVE-2016-1249) The DBD::mysql module through 4.043 for Perl allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (use-after-free and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact by triggering (1) certain error responses from a MySQL server or (2) a loss of a network connection to a MySQL server. The use-after-free defect was introduced by relying on incorrect Oracle mysql_stmt_close documentation and code examples.(CVE-2017-10788) The DBD::mysql module through 4.043 for Perl uses the mysql_ssl=1 setting to mean that SSL is optional (even though this setting's documentation has a 'your communication with the server will be encrypted' statement), which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof servers via a cleartext-downgrade attack, a related issue to CVE-2015-3152.(CVE-2017-10789)

Affected Versions:
'perl-DBD-MySQL' Linux Distribution Package(s) on Huawei EulerOS Virtualization 3.0.2.6.

Recommendations:
Please install the updated Linux Distribution Package(s).

Solution Type:
Vendor Patch

Detection Type:
Linux Distribution Package

No, you can add as many assest as you want. It doesn't matters if you have millions of assets, we won't charge you for that.

No. The software is completely free. We have no intention to charge you to use the software, in fact - it completely goes against our beliefs and business model.

A vulnerability is defined in the ISO 27002 standard as “A weakness of an asset or group of assets that can be exploited by one or more threats” (International Organization for Standardization, 2005)

Vulnerability management is the process in which vulnerabilities in IT are identified and the risks of these vulnerabilities are evaluated. This evaluation leads to correcting the vulnerabilities and removing the risk or a formal risk acceptance by the management of an organization. The term vulnerability management is often confused with vulnerability scanning. Despite the fact both are related, there is an important difference between the two. Vulnerability scanning consists of using a computer program to identify vulnerabilities in networks, computer infrastructure or applications. Vulnerability management is the process surrounding vulnerability scanning, also taking into account other aspects such as risk acceptance, remediation etc. Source: "Implementing a Vulnerability Management Process".
