Wireshark Multiple Denial of Service Vulnerabilities-02 August16 (Windows)
Published: 2016-08-09 05:01:32
CVE Author: NIST National Vulnerability Database
CVSS Base Vector:
AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P
Summary:
This host is installed with Wireshark
and is prone to multiple denial of service vulnerabilities.
Detection Method:
Checks if a vulnerable version is present on the target host.
Technical Details:
The multiple flaws are due to,
- An error in 'epan/proto.c' script cause OpenFlow dissector
(and possibly others) to go into a long loop.
- The 'epan/dissectors/packet-ldss.c' script in the LDSS dissector mishandles
conversations.
- An Off-by-one error in 'epan/dissectors/packet-rlc.c' script in the
RLC dissector.
- The 'epan/dissectors/packet-rlc.c' in the RLC dissector uses an
incorrect integer data type.
- An error in 'epan/dissectors/packet-wsp.c' script cause WSP dissector
to go into a long loop.
- An error in 'epan/dissectors/packet-packetbb.c' script could cause a
divide-by-zero error in PacketBB dissector.
Impact:
Successful exploitation will allow remote
attackers to conduct denial of service attack.
Affected Versions:
Wireshark version 1.12.x before 1.12.13 and
2.0.x before 2.0.5 on Windows.
Recommendations:
Upgrade to Wireshark version 1.12.13 or
2.0.5 or later.
Solution Type:
Vendor Patch
Detection Type:
Windows Registry

No, we don't store the information of your vulnerabilities in our servers.
What's vulnerability management?
Vulnerability management is the process in which vulnerabilities in IT are identified and the risks of these vulnerabilities are evaluated. This evaluation leads to correcting the vulnerabilities and removing the risk or a formal risk acceptance by the management of an organization. The term vulnerability management is often confused with vulnerability scanning. Despite the fact both are related, there is an important difference between the two. Vulnerability scanning consists of using a computer program to identify vulnerabilities in networks, computer infrastructure or applications. Vulnerability management is the process surrounding vulnerability scanning, also taking into account other aspects such as risk acceptance, remediation etc. Source: "Implementing a Vulnerability Management Process".
